9th January 2006
Dear Dr Mano Ranjan,
After consulting all our members, the Indian Steel
Alliance has finalized its Budget recommendations for the year
2006-'07 and the same are given below for your consideration and
recommendations to the concerned authorities:
a) Provision of customs duty be enhanced to 15% and
eventually linked with non-ferrous metals, so that there would not
be any differential treatment for steel.
b) Reduction in excise duty on GP/GC, TMT bars,
which are needed for construction activities and do not enjoy
mod-vat benefits.
c) With regard to monitoring of import of seconds &
defectives, we would like to suggest that a model similar to that of
Thailand Policy be adopted. The definition for seconds & defectives
finalized by the Ministry of Steel be recommended to the Finance
Ministry for inclusion in the budget proposals.
With kind regards,
Moosa Raza
